Rescue Me ID: 16-09-26-00206Taz (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

MEET TAZ! This uniquely handsome guy is named Taz or 'T' for short! Taz is a 7 year old Pit Bull terrier who was recently returned to Philly's animal control shelter after 5 years in a home due to his owners having to relocate and and inability to properly care for him. He has a mostly white coat with patches of gray throughout. When Taz came to the shelter, he was covered in lesions due to a pretty severe skin infection, likely mostly due to not being kept clean and likely not getting a healthy diet, which also contributes to him being overweight right now. Because Taz wasn't going to be able to get the care he needed at the shelter, he ... (Read More)was selected for euthanasia. Luckily, City of Elderly Love stepped in to save his life and whisked him right off to our vet! Taz is now safe and sound and is receiving antibiotics and medicated baths to help clear up his skin. He's also been started on an appropriate diet and is getting the moderate exercise he needs - he's going to look and feel like a whole new man in no time! Despite being a bigger guy, Taz walks well on a leash and is a low-key, medium-energy dog. He's always up for a walk or ride in the car, but is also happy to explore the yard on his own or snooze in the sun! He gives gentle kisses and loves back/butt scratches! Taz is currently living at a local doggy daycare/adoption center with other dogs. He does great with other smaller dogs and really seems to enjoy the company of the ladies! There are definitely some dogs Taz does not like, but he immediately lets us know so it is no big deal. Taz reportedly lived with children of all ages in his previous home and has done well when meeting them with us. While Taz may look a little rough around the edges right now, there is definitely a hidden gem waiting to shine through. Could you be the lucky family that adopts this handsome guy? (Less)

Westie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

In trying to guess at a breed for Billie we came up with many suggestions, including lamb, goat and alpaca, although we have pretty confidently ruled out lamb at least! She is a very sweet dog of around 7-10 yrs old who sort of waddles around like a goat. She is good with other dogs, preferring those who do not want to play roughly with her and greets people coming into the store.

Rescue Me ID: 16-09-10-00129Sky (female)

English Springer Spaniel Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

This sweet girl is Skylar, a gorgeous blue-eyed beauty. Sky is around 2-3 years old and almost looks like a giant springer spaniel (maybe spaniel/lab/hound and/or dane mix?). Sky is nervous with some new people, and in new situations, but given just a little time to get to know someone she opens up and becomes a sweet, goofy dog who loves butt scratches and going on adventures. One of our volunteers recently took her on an outing to the park and reported that Sky absolutely loves swimming in our local creek! She promises to show her new family her water skills and many other hidden talents Sky was adopted from us a few years ago as an ... (Read More)older puppy and sadly her family opted to return her when she nipped a kid in the home who hugged her while she was lying down and sleeping. Sky definitely is nervous and anxious at times but has never shown any aggression or propensity to bite, however given her history she likely should live in homes with kids 12 years and older. Although Sky does not love being in a kennel she is crate trained (needs zip ties on a wire crate, or to be in an airline crate). Her former family reports she is housebroken, although she has had some nervous accidents with us and likely will have some accidents as she transitions to a new home. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped and ready to go. Take a chance on this girl - you won't regret it! (Less)

He catches on quick and is very treat motivated, learning "sit" in no time at all! Murray loves his people and has proven to be quite the little cuddler. Rescue Me ID: 16-03-27-00197Bruno (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

This ruggedly handsome, wiggle-butt mutt is Bruno- 55 pounds of loyalty and love. Bruno's story begins at ACCT Philadelphia, where he found himself as a stray dog, singing the blues in his kennel until a friend came along. He certainly found a dedicated friend, who after months of visiting him daily, took him into foster care. Bruno spent a couple months in foster care with a pit-mix foster sister, who he got along with beautifully. He seemed an anxious dog, but the lifestyle of his foster just seemed to fit; low foot traffic, plenty of exercise, and an experienced handler. This is where Bruno's amazing personality really shined. He's a ... (Read More)total goofball, who's tail seems to never stop wagging. His affection supply is never-ending, and he's perfectly content with life as long as he's got toys around. They're his absolute favorite! Bruno found himself at Dog Town Rescue when his foster had to make a big move out of state. He fit right into our dog park environment, and quickly won over the hearts of staff members. Soon after, Bruno was adopted by a great family with many young kids. Once settled in their home, it became apparent that they were not the fit for Bruno's anxious energy. They often had unannounced visitors in and out, a busy household, and were not able to offer Bruno the structure he needed. After exhibiting some guarding behaviors with strangers entering the house, it was decided that Bruno should come back to Dog Town by all involved. Since returning, while still the happy boy we know and love, Bruno's anxiety has been apparent. He is only comfortable with certain staff members, which we have accommodated. We felt it best to have Bruno evaluated by a trainer. The trainer recognized Bruno's anxiety, but certainly encouraged us that it is workable, and he can excel in the proper home. We have taken him back for a session, where we worked heavily on a 'place' command which would be useful for visitors coming into a home. Bruno is one smart cookie! He nailed it no problem, and with some consistent training, we are confident he could master it. His training plan involves a lot of desensitizing, and working on recall and focus, even with distractions. Bruno needs a very special adopter that will commit to continuing to work with him. With training, his behaviors can be modified, but also need to be managed for a lifetime. He needs a strong, patient leader, who will fulfill his needs for exercise and structure. Luckily, Bruno is the wiggliest, happiest dog around once he is comfortable with you. His tail can wag a mile a minute, he's affectionate, he LOVES toys, and he has an incredible amount of love to give. While he needs a slow approach when meeting people, his personality is well worth the wait. This boy promises to keep you smiling, and you'll have a loyal friend for life. If you're the right fit for Bruno, we promise that the work is worth the reward. He's a really special dog, who just needs a really special kind of owner. Bruno's adoption fee ($100) will go directly towards a session with the trainer we've been using to work on his behaviors. It covers the whole session, so we can be sure you will start off on the right foot! For more information, email adoptions@dogtown309.com. (Less)

Duck, duck, duck....ADOPT! Duck is very handsome lowrider 3-5 year old pit bull mix. He was originally pulled from a very full kill shelter in Philadelphia and thought he had found his forever home. Unfortunately Duck liked to rough house with the younger kids in the home a bit too much and was returned to us, and now is on the lookout for his next (and forever) home. Duck's former dad says he is hands down the best dog he has ever had, and we believe it. Since coming back to Dog Town Duck has shown himself to be social with most dogs of all sizes, loves all the staff members, and has lived with cats in the past. He would need to be in ... Rescue Me ID: 15-07-07-00294T Walker (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

Our little Texas Walker, more affectionately known as "T" to many, has far too long a story, and has been waiting patiently for his forever home. T Walker, true to his breed (chihuahua), takes a bit more time to warm up to new people than some others. During his first week at Dog Town, our staff quickly learned that he needed to approach us, rather than us approaching him. We took the "ignore" approach, and let him come around in his own time. Sure enough, just days later, we felt two little paws scratch at our legs for pets. Just like that, we had a little buddy. T Walker's fear of new people manifests itself in some ... (Read More)less than ideal ways for a "meet and greet". Most people want to instantly reach in and pet the adorable dog, but he needs more space than that. He's looking for that one special adopter who will respect his needs, and in return, he will be a wonderful, loyal companion. After a few months of no luck at the adoption center, a wonderful foster stepped forward for T Walker. We decided to find out just how he can do in a home environment, and he has certainly exceeded expectations! T Walker is his foster mom, Deb's, little shadow! He's most content by her side, and loves sleeping quietly in his bed while she works from home. He is house trained, crate trained, and has been attending obedience school where he's a star pupil. He knows MANY basic commands and tricks, and will show them off with just a small piece of chicken or a yummy training treat. Because of T Walker's need for time and space, his ideal home would be without children. He does seem to prefer women to men, but could warm up to either as long as he's given the time. T prefers less pushy dogs, who won't be too in his face, or overly playful. He does have a few favorite friends he loves to zip around the yard with, so he could live with another very low key dog. His perfect home would be low traffic, and with someone who is willing to continue his training and socialization. With just some time and love, you're looking at having a friend for life. What more could you ask for? For more information, or to meet T Walker and those big soulful eyes, email adoptions@dogtown309.com. (Less)
