He will be sent home with his medication Meet 'Murica (AKA Murray)! Murray is one of Dog Town's Fourth of July saves. A stray that was brought into the animal intake shelter in Philadelphia, we found this little guy huddled in a small dog cage looking just too sad to leave behind. At ... (Read More)just about 4 or 5 months old, Murray is looking for a family to teach him the ropes of being the best family dog he can be. He catches on quick and is very treat motivated, learning "sit" in no time at all! Murray loves his people and has proven to be quite the little cuddler. A silly puppy he may not been socialized in his previous life with other dogs. He has been doing well with his other foster friends. though he does like to play a bit rowdy, he's using his time at the adoption center to learn some doggie manners. You may have noticed Murray's fur looks a little funny, he currently has mange, a completely treatable skin condition often seen in stray puppies. He is on medicine (which will be sent home with his adopters) and will not suffer from any long term effects. We can't wait to see his transformation as he clearly has the markings of a very handsome little guy! Any questions? Feel free to contact us at adoptions@dogtown309.com (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-06-25-00203Ophelia (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Not to be confused with her dramatic namesake (who was, as we know, a Great Dane), this fair maiden is a 3-5 year old Pit Bull Terrier mix who hath made a shelter-break and landed in foster care with me and my dog. A few notes about this damsel: 'ۢ Despite her young age, Ophelia's overall demeanor is laid back. When she's not chewing on a bone, going for a walk, or sunning herself in the yard, she's napping. 'ۢ When she gets a burst of energy, she zooms around the back yard as if to show you how happy she is to be in a home again - playful with a side of sass and a bright spirit that illuminates the house. 'ۢ Ophelia is ... (Read More)treat-motivated and sits on a dime when the hot dog bag comes out. She knows, "sit", with endless possibilities to learn more. 'ۢ Potty-trained! She understands that potty outdoors = wild dancing and a handful of stinky, yummy treats. She is trained to go out the dog door on her own. 'ۢ Ophelia enjoys curling up and sleeping in bed with her human. Forty thousand brothers, could not, with all their quantity of love, make up her sum. She was apparently trained to stay off the furniture in her old home, but I've been a bad influence in this sense. 'ۢ Ophelia doesn't like the crate lifestyle, which she likens to a nunnery, but in the few weeks that she's been here, she has reluctantly accepted it - minus a few chewed up blankets. 'ۢ Looking for an activity partner? Ophelia and I went on a few hikes where she embraced the sights and sounds of nature. 'ۢ She gets along great with my Pit Bull and has done well in a large pack of dogs. Ophelia is well-rounded enough to live with big dogs, small dogs, big people and little people. She is a great starter dog. Ophelia takes it slow with anything new. It took her a few days to adjust to my home, but then she blossomed into the awesome dog I know now. We went to an adoption event a few days ago in a crowded, public place. She was shy at first, but allowed people to say hello. She seeks a patient and understanding adopter who will allow her to go at her own pace. Her estimated weight is 50-60 lbs. Ophelia is spayed and current on shots. We look forward to meeting you! Rescue Me ID: 16-03-27-00197Bruno (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

This ruggedly handsome, wiggle-butt mutt is Bruno- 55 pounds of loyalty and love. Bruno's story begins at ACCT Philadelphia, where he found himself as a stray dog, singing the blues in his kennel until a friend came along. He certainly found a dedicated friend, who after months of visiting him daily, took him into foster care. Bruno spent a couple months in foster care with a pit-mix foster sister, who he got along with beautifully. He seemed an anxious dog, but the lifestyle of his foster just seemed to fit; low foot traffic, plenty of exercise, and an experienced handler. This is where Bruno's amazing personality really shined. He's a ... (Read More)total goofball, who's tail seems to never stop wagging. His affection supply is never-ending, and he's perfectly content with life as long as he's got toys around. They're his absolute favorite! Bruno found himself at Dog Town Rescue when his foster had to make a big move out of state. He fit right into our dog park environment, and quickly won over the hearts of staff members. Soon after, Bruno was adopted by a great family with many young kids. Once settled in their home, it became apparent that they were not the fit for Bruno's anxious energy. They often had unannounced visitors in and out, a busy household, and were not able to offer Bruno the structure he needed. After exhibiting some guarding behaviors with strangers entering the house, it was decided that Bruno should come back to Dog Town by all involved. Since returning, while still the happy boy we know and love, Bruno's anxiety has been apparent. He is only comfortable with certain staff members, which we have accommodated. We felt it best to have Bruno evaluated by a trainer. The trainer recognized Bruno's anxiety, but certainly encouraged us that it is workable, and he can excel in the proper home. We have taken him back for a session, where we worked heavily on a 'place' command which would be useful for visitors coming into a home. Bruno is one smart cookie! He nailed it no problem, and with some consistent training, we are confident he could master it. His training plan involves a lot of desensitizing, and working on recall and focus, even with distractions. Bruno needs a very special adopter that will commit to continuing to work with him. With training, his behaviors can be modified, but also need to be managed for a lifetime. He needs a strong, patient leader, who will fulfill his needs for exercise and structure. Luckily, Bruno is the wiggliest, happiest dog around once he is comfortable with you. His tail can wag a mile a minute, he's affectionate, he LOVES toys, and he has an incredible amount of love to give. While he needs a slow approach when meeting people, his personality is well worth the wait. This boy promises to keep you smiling, and you'll have a loyal friend for life. If you're the right fit for Bruno, we promise that the work is worth the reward. He's a really special dog, who just needs a really special kind of owner. Bruno's adoption fee ($100) will go directly towards a session with the trainer we've been using to work on his behaviors. It covers the whole session, so we can be sure you will start off on the right foot! For more information, email adoptions@dogtown309.com. (Less)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Duck, duck, duck....ADOPT! Duck is very handsome lowrider 3-5 year old pit bull mix. He was originally pulled from a very full kill shelter in Philadelphia and thought he had found his forever home. Unfortunately Duck liked to rough house with the younger kids in the home a bit too much and was returned to us, and now is on the lookout for his next (and forever) home. Duck's former dad says he is hands down the best dog he has ever had, and we believe it. Since coming back to Dog Town Duck has shown himself to be social with most dogs of all sizes, loves all the staff members, and has lived with cats in the past. He would need to be in ... Rescue Me ID: 15-07-07-00294T Walker (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

Our little Texas Walker, more affectionately known as "T" to many, has far too long a story, and has been waiting patiently for his forever home. T Walker, true to his breed (chihuahua), takes a bit more time to warm up to new people than some others. During his first week at Dog Town, our staff quickly learned that he needed to approach us, rather than us approaching him. We took the "ignore" approach, and let him come around in his own time. Sure enough, just days later, we felt two little paws scratch at our legs for pets. Just like that, we had a little buddy. T Walker's fear of new people manifests itself in some ... (Read More)less than ideal ways for a "meet and greet". Most people want to instantly reach in and pet the adorable dog, but he needs more space than that. He's looking for that one special adopter who will respect his needs, and in return, he will be a wonderful, loyal companion. After a few months of no luck at the adoption center, a wonderful foster stepped forward for T Walker. We decided to find out just how he can do in a home environment, and he has certainly exceeded expectations! T Walker is his foster mom, Deb's, little shadow! He's most content by her side, and loves sleeping quietly in his bed while she works from home. He is house trained, crate trained, and has been attending obedience school where he's a star pupil. He knows MANY basic commands and tricks, and will show them off with just a small piece of chicken or a yummy training treat. Because of T Walker's need for time and space, his ideal home would be without children. He does seem to prefer women to men, but could warm up to either as long as he's given the time. T prefers less pushy dogs, who won't be too in his face, or overly playful. He does have a few favorite friends he loves to zip around the yard with, so he could live with another very low key dog. His perfect home would be low traffic, and with someone who is willing to continue his training and socialization. With just some time and love, you're looking at having a friend for life. What more could you ask for? For more information, or to meet T Walker and those big soulful eyes, email adoptions@dogtown309.com. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

At around 2 years old Sable has a much longer story than she should.... We originally rescued her in March of 2015 when a good Samaritan intervened to keep her out of a local kill shelter (she was just a baby at the time). She eventually went on to find her home, however the home lacked much of the structure Sable needs and she would occasionally fight with the resident dog over bones and high value items. Although Sable lived with cats and dogs at this point she likely would do best as an only pet, at least until she learns some boundaries and rules. The flip side to her is that she is smart as a whip, loves to work with and for her ... (Read More)handler and really wants to please. She has also done well with the kids she has met. Sable is housebroken and crate trained, although we would expect even the most reliable pups might have accidents in a new environment as they acclimated. She is one of those dogs you meet and can't help but love. She has a great temperament and foundation and would be a great companion to someone looking for their one and only. Sable is already spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. (Less)
